Missouri Day Marching Festival Is Oct. 16

The 14th annual Missouri Day Marching Festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16 as part of the 26th annual Missouri Day Festival activities.

The parade gets under way at 8:30 a.m., beginning at Crowder Road and Main Street, and continue south to Main and onto Ninth Street, where the parade will proceed on to Normal Street.
Bands scheduled to compete in events at the high school will exit at Normal Street, with the rest of the parade scheduled to continue to Bulldog Avenue, where it will exit to Eastside Park.
Auxilary and drumline events will be held at the high school during the morning and early afternoon and there is no admission for these activities. Scheduled to get under way around mid-day is the field show competition, which will be held at C.F. Russell Stadium. There will be an admission charge of $5 for adults, $3 for children grades six and older and free for those age fifth grade and under.
A complete schedule of events, including participating schools, will be announced the week of the marching festival.

Meanwhile, other entries are still be accepted for the parade, sponsored by the Trenton Rotary Club.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “Paving a Path to the Future.” A large number of bands are scheduled to take part in the parade and the Rotary Club would also like to see a large number of other entries as well. Floats, antique cars or trucks and antique conveyances are especially encouraged, although any type of entry will be accepted. There is no fee to enter except for political-related entries, which will be charged a fee of $25.
Trophies will be awarded in 10 categories, including including “Spirit of Missouri” Float, Best Youth Float, Best Business Float, Best Organizational Float, Best Classic Car or Truck, Best Antique Car or Truck, Oldest Farm Tractor, Best Horse Entry-Adult, Best Horse Entry-Youth and Best Dressed Saddle Club.
Entries are being accepted at the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce or by e-mail at [email protected]. The Rotary Club is encouraging persons to sign up electronically, if possible. Entries will be accepted until Tuesday, Oct. 12.
