Trenton Golf Team Still Alive

Sep 30, 2010 | Golf, Sports & Recreation

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs wound up fourth at the Class 1, District 7 Golf Tournament on Wednesday at the Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe, but qualified four golfers individually to keep their team in the hunt for the state tournament.
Trenton shot a team score of 392, placing them behind Kirksville and Brookfield, which both shot scores of 368, and Chillicothe, which finished with a 374. Only the top two teams advance to sectionals, however, the Lady Bulldogs qualified four golfers individually, keeping their team hopes alive.

“It’s similar to the score I was expecting, we are happy with that,” Lady Bulldogs’ Coach Jeremy Austin said. “We were not expecting some of the other competition to improve as much as they have. Brookfield is a good golf team, but I haven’t ever seen them put up numbers like that and their coach was just as surprised as the rest of us. We think that our best golf is still ahead of us, though. We had a couple of our girls put together excellent rounds, career rounds even.”
Chandler Wilson led the way for the Lady Bulldogs, shooting a 90. A front nine 47 and back nine 43 allowed Wilson to place ninth overall at the tournament.
Hannah Griffin had a solid day as well, finishing with a 93. Griffin shot a 47 on the front and a 46 on the back to arrive at her total and place 12th overall.
Katie Lenhart had the 13th best score in the tournament shooting a 100. Lenhart tallied a 50 on both the front and back nines to reach her total.
“That was the best Katie has shot all year,” Austin said. “She shot an even 100 over 18 holes and that was 12 strokes better than she shot there a week ago. That was a pretty good improvement for her. Chandler and Hannah both shot really well. That was Chandler’s best score of the year, too, and you throw Haley (Purkapile) in there and we have a full team going to sectionals and I think we will be successful there too.”
Rounding out the Trenton team total was Purkapile, who shot a 57 and a 52 to give her a final total of 109. The top 15
