Final Weekend For New Harmonies Exhibit

As reported earlier, over 1,350 patrons have visited the Grundy County Museum and enjoyed the Smithsonian sponsored exhibit. Those numbers continue to grow with officials anticipating over 2,000 visitors by the conclusion of the exhibit on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m.
Patrons are reminded that the exhibit will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. and then the exhibit will be prepared for delivery to the next city on Monday. Nineteen shipping containers at an average weight of 250 pounds will be forwarded to Nevada, MO, the site of the next promotion.
Over 20 organizations have visited the museum during the “New Harmonies”exhibit with six schools bringing students from elementary through high school to the exhibit. In addition to viewing New Harmonies, guests have also toured the one-room Baker School and the military annex building.
Smithsonian CD’S are still available and have been reduced to $10. with the local musicians’ CDs remaining at their original prices.
The Grundy County Museum Board expresses deep appreciation to the hundreds of volunteers who have assisted in preparing and shipping the exhibit, hosting, serving as tour guides and merchandisers of products, acting as museum docents and finally, the hundreds and hundreds of guests to the Museum.
The Grundy County Museum is for the public to enjoy and the “New Harmonies” exhibit certainly opened the door to many first-time and returning visitors.
“New Harmonies Celebrating American Roots Music” is funded by the Smithsonian Institution and the Missouri Humanities Council.
