The Laredo City Council met Tuesday night, with a new councilperson sworn in and a maintenance man hired.

According to City Clerk Amy Bowe, the oath of office was given to Jennifer Courtney, who is filling the unexpired term of Robert Kelly. She will serve until an election is held in April. In addition, the board hired Don McDonald to serve as maintenance man, beginning immediately. George Griffin met with the council concerning its rules and regulations.
In other business, the council was notified that Veolia Trash has increased its rates for Laredo, with the new rate, $13.90 per month, to be reflected on the October billing. The council approved an ordinance that now allows the city to place a lien on property when the city cleans up debris on the right-of-way and the property owner does not pay. Previously, the amount was placed on the city water bill.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12.
