Louise Barnes Richards, a 97-year-old resident of Pleasant Valley, died on Wednesday evening, Sept. 1, 2010 at Pleasant Valley Manor Care Center in Liberty.

A Celebration Of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 at the Pleasant View Christian Church in Independence with Rev. Michael J. Josue officiating. Burial will be Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the IOOF Cemetery in Trenton. Services under direction of Slater Funeral Home of Trenton.
A family visitation will be held at the Church from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service.
Mrs. Louise Barnes Richards, was born on Aug. 18, 1913 in Trenton, the daughter of Joseph Andrew and Bessie Lee Thomas Barnes. She attended Trenton and Chicago, IL, schools. Her working career was at Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Chicago.
She was married in Chicago on Oct. 19, 1940 to Alvin Richards Sr., who preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1996.
After her marriage, she spent her time as a wife, mother and homemaker, mostly in the areas of Chicago, Trenton, Kansas City and Springfield. She lived at Pleasant Valley Manor Care Center for more than three years. Prior to that, she made her home in Independence for 10 years. Louise’s lifelong hobby was hand-piecing quilt tops and her hand-work continued until about six weeks prior to her passing.
She was a member of Pleasant View Christian Church in Independence, and Eastern Star Crescent Chapter No. 21 of Springfield.
Her survivors include two daughters, Mary Cercy and her husband, Clifford, of Independence and Helen Daniels and her husband, Larry, of Liberty; one son, Alvin Richards, Jr. and his wife, Patty, of Platte City; four grandchildren, Rhonda Chamberlain of Kansas City, Cheryl Malone of Blue Springs, Susan Daniels and her husband, Greg Kiloh, of Austin, TX and David Richards and his wife, Crystal, of Fair Grove; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob Siddiqui, Jenna Siddiqui, Lauren Chamberlain, Keely Richter, Grant Richter, Chastyn Malone and Hannah Richards.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Eugene Barnes.
