The process will begin with the contractor removing the existing top surface of the roadway in the five-lane section of Highway 65 on the north edge of Chillicothe. This removal process is called milling. The millings will then be recycled and used to resurface the roadway. This work will start near the south entrance of Casey’s General Store in the five-lane section and continue north 1.5 miles to the end of the five-lane section. This process should take approximately two days.
When the milling has been completed crews will begin resurfacing in the same area; then continue the resurfacing project north to Trenton.
Lanes of traffic will be reduced in the work zone areas and speed limits lowered. Motorists should use caution and expect some moderate delays.
As the work continues on the corridor in Mercer, Grundy and Livingston counties, the contractor, Norris Asphalt Paving, is also working on the resurfacing project just north of Trenton. The resurfacing is essentially complete from the Iowa line south to Grundy County. Construction of the Barton Farm Campus entrance and access roadway, SE Eighth Street, is also ongoing. The earth grading is complete and the contractor will begin paving that area in the near future.
MoDOT will issue weekly updates on the progress of the $12 million improvements to Highway 65 throughout the remainder of the work, which is expected to be completed by Nov. 1, weather permitting.
