George Vanderpool, a 74-year-old resident of Trenton, died at his home at 103 W. 17th St. on Tuesday evening, Aug. 24, 2010, while under hospice care.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27, 2010 at the First Assembly of God in Trenton. Burial will follow military graveside rites in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton.
A scheduled family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010 at the Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton.
Mr. Vanderpool was born on Feb. 9, 1936 at Trenton, the son of Lloyd O. and Mary Grace Mantlo Vanderpool. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1954 and the next day entered the United States Air Force. He served his country from May 17, 1954 until his honorable discharge on June 1, 1974. He was discharged as a technical sergeant and served in Vietnam.
He was married to Willa Marrs on March 13, 1955 in Trenton. After his discharge they returned to Trenton to make their home. He was employed at American Sterilizer Company and worked on medical equipment in the Kansas City area for 10 years.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God and the Major Dale Stepp American Legion Post No. 31.
Mr. Vanderpool is survived by his wife, Willa, of the home; three sons; David Vanderpool of Kennett, Richard Vanderpool of Hopkiton, MA and Jeffrey Vanderpool of Gardner, KS; a sister, Mary Tharp of Harrington, KS; two brothers, James and William Vanderpool; both of Des Moines, IA; and 10 grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Vanderpool.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to be given to the First Assembly of God Building Fund.
