Principal/Superintendent Mike Garrett reported that the 2010-2011 tax rate was set at 4.3906, an increase over last year’s levy of 4.3611. This increase, combined with an increase in assessed valuation, will generate an additional $2,371 in income. Garrett said the assessed valuation for the district went from $3,646,215 last year to $3,677,020 this year.
Several new benefits for hourly personnel were approved, including one day of accumulated sick leave for every 22 days worked; two days of personal leave per year; up to three bereavement days to attend the funeral of an immediate family member; and the following paid holidays: Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day. Personnel will be expected to be at work on extended school holidays such as winter break, spring break and summer vacation, except for the holidays indicated above or deemed excused by the superintendent. Working hours will be determined by position requirements.
In other business, the board approved the hiring of a substitute for the custodial/food service/and secretary positions as needed. Also approved was the Annual Secretary of the Board Report and the payment of bills in the amount of $56,044.08, which is an increase due to the payment for new lighting installation and the final payment on the roof. A transfer of $86,981.81 was approved to balance the books.
Garrett reported that Thompson Electric has finished the lighting project, with some cleanup to take place today. He also reported that the roof project has been completed by Hoover Construction. Garrett said the school audit was completed Aug. 12 and noted that the first day of teacher training went smoothly, with classes set to begin on Wednesday.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 20.
