Irene Higgins, a 76-year-old resident of Wheeling, died on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010 at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Burial will be in the Wheeling Cemetery.
Family visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010 at the funeral home. General visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday.
Mrs. Higgins was born on Sept. 1, 1933 near Eversonville, the daughter of Delbert Halsey and Della Gertrude Transue Stevenson. She attended White Cloud School and graduated from Wheeling High School in 1951. She graduated from Chillicothe Business College in 1952.
She was married on Feb. 22, 1953 in Wheeling to Robert Lee Higgins, who preceded her in death on May 1, 2005. She was of the Baptist faith and attended the Wheeling Baptist Church. She and her husband, raised livestock and had a feed dealership in their home, north of Meadville. They purchased the Laclede Elevator in 1973 and built the Wheeling Elevator in 1984, operating a grain storage elevator for 30 years.
She was a leader with the Junior Bees 4-H Club, a Sunday school teacher, a Bible school teacher and a 40-year member of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by three daughters Debby Higgins of Chillicothe, Pam Quick and her husband, Paul, of Wheeling and Trisha Wilburn and her husband, Bobby, of Meadville; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Margaret Howe and her family of the Chillicothe area; a sister-in-law; and other cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, in-laws, aunts, uncles and a brother-in-law.
