David and Belinda Hogan visited with the board concerning property at 2414 Fisherman Road, owned by Matt and Stephanie Snow, which is next to a house that the Hogans are attempting to sell. Hogan indicated that he was told by a realtor that the condition of the Snow property would affect the sale of his property, adding that he has a prospective buyer coming in this week to look at his property. Because Hogan makes his living in buying and selling homes, he told the board that he was concerned about losing the sale because of the Snow property.
Board members were told that the property had building materials and other items on it, but that Halloween decorations that had been laying in the yard have been removed. Building Inspector Gary Beverlin said he had visited with the Snows, but would do so again and if it was not cleaned up would issue a ticket.
Beverlin was given a list of seven properties by Board Chairman Larry Huffstutter, with Beverlin to visit with property owners in an effort to get the properties cleaned up. They include 1109 Rural St., junk car in yard; 802 Stanture, trash in yard; 717 22nd St., tall grass; 19th and Lulu (corner lot), brush and tall grass; 20th and Lulu, house in disrepair and trash in yard; Merrill and 18th, tall grass; and 812 W. 15th St., house in disrepair and tall grass. They also discussed houses at 815 W. 15th St., 502 W. 12th St., 506 E. 13th Court, Eighth and McPherson and Sixth and Monroe. Beverlin indicated he had issued several tickets during the month for nuisance violations and will be issuing more in an effort to get properties cleaned up.
The board also discussed clean-up of the former Brainerd School property and voted to have Beverlin file paperwork with the court to demolish a house on Chicago Street. The house, which has been owned by Cynthia Robertson, is one in which the board has dealt with for several years and Beverlin noted it has been through the hearing process.
