The Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune reported that all programs took some cuts, with the largest being at the Grand River Technical School, which is refusing a $150,000 grant because the district cannot afford the 25 percent match required to receive the funds. Over half of the cuts, $287,921 came from monies originally budgeted for supplies, equipment and travel. Each instruction budget at the high school took at least a 30 percent decrease, with the music department budget dropping 77 percent to just $1,000 for the year. Staff travel expenditures were dropped by 39 percent and the athletic budget was cut by $34,000, including elimination of some tournaments and matches.
Another $138,625 cut from the budget are items directly affected by losses in state funding, including $82,625 in transportation cuts and another $35,000 in health services. Technology funds are being cut by $21,000.
As a result, the district’s revised budget will show a projected general revenue fund balance of $472,501 on June 30, 2011. The original budget had shown a balance of only $586.
