Fair season is right around the corner, with the Gilman City Fair Association holding its annual event on June 24-27.

The four-day event has been moved up a month and kicks off on a Thursday night with a goat show at 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Registration is at 5 p.m. There will be a pet parade at 6 p.m., followed at 6:30 p.m. by the bicycle/tricycle parade. Registration for both events will be held at 5:45 p.m. at the ballfield, where the parades will take place. All participants will receive a prize.
Friday’s activities kick off with the beef show. The bucket calf show is at 6:30 p.m., followed by the breeding beef show at 7 p.m. and the steer show at the conclusion of the breeding show. Entries in all three shows are to be made no later than 5 p.m.
A full day of activities is planned on Saturday, beginning with the ladies lead line at 9 a.m., followed by the sheep show. Entries will be taken beginning at 7:30 a.m. A swine show is scheduled for 6 p.m., with entries to begin at 4 p.m. and weigh-in at 4:30 p.m.
There will be six supreme champion and reserve champion trophies presented in the goat, sheep, swine and beef shows as well as reserve trophies presented in the market classes. Senior and junior showmanship awards will also be presented in each livestock division.
A baby show is at 4:30 p.m. in the air-conditioned ag building. Registration begins at 4 p.m. Competition will be held in five age groups for both boys and girls, with first-place trophies being awarded to the winners. There is a $3 entry fee and babies are to be dressed in swimsuits only.
The Gilman City FFA will hold a barbecue at 5 p.m., with proceeds going to help offset costs for members to attend the national convention. The cost is $5 and includes meat, vegetable and a drink.
Musical entertainment is set for Saturday evening, with the band “Dammit Jim and the Rednecks” performing at 7 o’clock.
A gospel show on Sunday concludes the fair activities. The show will be at 5 p.m. at the fairgrounds and the cookshack will be open.
