An art show has been added to the activities planned as part of the 2008 Gooseberry Festival set for this weekend in Trenton.

The Trenton Art Guild will have a display of work by members in the fine arts area of the Rock Barn. The show will be open to the public throughout the day on Saturday.
Also in the Rock Barn area will be flea market, craft and food vendors from 9 to 5 p.m. The Rock Barn will also be the site of the annual gooseberry cooking contest, which includes the judging of pies, jams and jellies. Registration is at 9 a.m., with the judging to take place at 9:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded.
ATV drag races are scheduled for both Friday and Saturday at the North Central Missouri Fairgrounds grandstand area. Registration is at 5 p.m., with racing at 7 p.m. Admission will be charged to attend and prizes will be awarded.
Also on Friday and Saturday will be sorting and roping at the North Missouri Saddle Club. Saturday’s schedule will featuring the Billie Veach Memorial Roping event at 6 p.m. It will be a team roping competition, featuring ropers from Iowa and Missouri, with the late Billie Veach being honored. Admission is free and the cookshack will be open for refreshments. RV hookups are also available through Peggy Kincaid at Peggy’s RV Park. Rich Griffith is in charge of these events.
The annual Pee Wee Tournament will get under way on Friday night with games at 5:30, 7 and 8:30 at Upper Moberly Field. Games will continue at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Upper and Lower Moberly Fields and continue throughout the day. Games are also scheduled on Sunday afternoon. Teams competing include Trenton Green, Trenton Blue, Green City, Unionville, Princeton and Mercer. Gary Berry is in charge of the Pee Week Tournament. Saturday will be the festival’s busiest day, beginning with the 5K and 10K run/walk, which begins at the Eastside Park shelterhouse. Registration will be at 7 a.m., with the run/walk set to get under way at 7:30 a.m. Lisa Schilling and Molly Long are in charge of this event.
Riverside Country Club will celebrate its 100th anniversary with the Poosey Couples Golf Scramble at the RCC. The shotgun start is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Dr. Alissa Wiggins is the contact person.
The Ebbe Sports Complex will be the site of the annual Little League Tournament, which gets under way with pool play at 9 a.m. The Trenton Tigers, Cameron, Green City/Milan Bobcats, Trenton Phantoms, Chillicothe and Princeton will be playing, with tournament play continue at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams following play on Sunday. Christy Tolson is in charge of the little league tournament. The Eastside Park parking lot will be the site of an antique and classic machinery show, which will be held on both Saturday and Sunday. A special part of the event will be a parade at 1 p.m. on both days, which begins at the park and will continue down Oklahoma Avenue to 28th Street; down 28th Street to the Grundy County Senior Center, where it will turn and go back on 28th Street to Sunnyview Nursing Home. The parade will then turn around, travel onto Princeton Road and 17th Street, turning east to Harris Avenue and continuing south to Ninth Street. The parade will then go back east to Eastside Park.
A 99 Bird Combination Shoot will be held at the Trap/Skeet Range north of Trenton on Saturday.
Registration and practice traps will open at 9:30 a.m., with competition to begin at 11 a.m. The shoot will include 25 16-yard targets, 25 handicap targets, 25 skeet targets and 12 pair of trap doubles targets. There is a $25 entry fee.
A queen and princess contest is planned for Saturday for girls ages 12 to 18. Interviews will be at 10 a.m. at the Boji Stone, with the royalty to be crowned shortly afterward. Girls interested in participating can contact Connie Hurst at 485-6260.
Horseshoe pitching is planned at Eastside Park, beginning at 10 a.m. A clinic will be held, with a tournament to follow. Johnny Egeland is in charge.
The Trenton Kiwanis Club will hold a car show in the city parking lot just west of the Grundy County Museum. Registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon, with prizes to be awarded at 3 p.m.
There will be skateboard and skate competition at the Eastside Park Skate Park. Events begin at 11 a.m. Robert Williams is in charge.
Games for children ages 12 and under are planned at the Rock Barn, beginning at 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded.
Boxing will take center stage on Saturday night in the Rock Barn Pavilion area. Matches are scheduled to start at 6 o’clock, which is an earlier time than had previously been announced. Rocky Dunkin and Donnie Dunkin are in charge.
In addition, the Grundy County Museum, its annex building and the Baker School will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Free gooseberry ice cream will be served, with paid admission, from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission, which includes all three museum buildings, is $1 for adults, with children admitted free. Gooseberry ice cream will be served as long as the supply lasts.
