The Grundy County American Cancer Society will hold its 12th annual Relay For Life event this Friday night, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 at the Trenton High School.

A total of 23 teams are participating in this year’s event, which begins at 6 p.m. and will continue throughout the night. Among the highlights are the cancer survivors walk at 6 p.m. and the lighting of the luminarias in memory and honor of those who have fought the disease at 9 p.m. Luminarias are available for purchase from Robin Griswold, 359-4218 at a cost of $5 each. The luminarias can also be purchased the night of the event.
Other events planned for the evening include games, food and entertainment. Team members, their families and friends will also be walking the track throughout the night as part of the activities.
Teams have been very busy the past several weeks with various activities to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Awards will be presented to both individuals and groups to recognize those efforts.
Teams entered in this year’s Relay For Life event include North Central Missouri Mental Health Center, Galt Community and Friends, Wright Memorial Hospital, North Central Missouri College/Phi Theta Kappa, Hy-Vee, Modine Manufacturing, Laredo Christian Church, Grundy County Children’s Division, Green Hills Community Action Center, ConAgra Foods, Local 194-G, Hodge Presbyterian Church, Serenity Sullivan (family), Galt Christian Church, Christina’s Champions (family), Citizens Bank and Trust, TNT Convenience, Preferred Family Health Care, Immanuel Lutheran Church, First Christian Church, Trenton FFA, Patricia Stowers and the Rebekah Lodge.
The public is invited to attend any of the events planned throughout the evening. Participants are asked to bring their lawn chairs for seating.
Activities conclude at 7 a.m. on Saturday with breakfast and the awards ceremony for the teams involved.
