Edmund D. Egeland, an 88-year-old resident of Trenton, died on Friday evening, May 30, 2008 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.

The body was cremated.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday June 4, 2008 at the Groff Cemetery, northwest of Spickard, under the direction of Slater Funeral Home at Trenton. Rev. Harry Clifton will officiate. Military graveside services will be conducted by Joseph L. Norton VFW Post No. 919 of Trenton.
Mr. Egeland, was born on Aug. 1, 1919 in Miles City, MT, the son of David Edmund and Mary Agnes Stewart Egeland. He graduated from Spickard High School in 1937. He lived in Japan, Guam and Texas while he was serving his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Egeland retired from the Navy in 1960 after 20 years of service with the rank of Warrant Officer 1st Class. He then went to work for the State Of Missouri Park Department for 10 Years.
He was a member of Methodist Church in Preston and farmed in the area for several years. He also was a member of the Waukegan, IL, Masonic Lodge No. 78 AF&AM, the Retired Officer’s Association (TROA) of Washing-ton, DC, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association Of Kansas City and Major Dale Stepp American Legion Post No. 31 of Trenton.
He was married in Washington D.C. on Nov. 14, 1944 to Wanda Whitt, who survives of the home.
He is also survived by two sons, David E. Egeland and his wife, Toni, of Independence, and Jerry Egeland of Linn Creek; one sister, Evelyn Belshe of Trenton; two grandchildren, Erica Harshman of Grain Valley and David M. Egeland of Independence; and one great-granddaughter, Halle Brynn Harshman of Grain Valley.
He was preceded in death by parents and three sisters, Julia Egeland, Dora Yates and Lois Williams.
Memorials have been requested to the American Cancer Society and they may be left at the funeral home.
