Chosen to fill three-year terms on the board were Harry Bratton of Lee’s Summit, Nanetta Carter of Savannah, Edward McCarty of Kansas City, Bina Peace of Princeton, and Chris Hoffman, Wendell Lenhart, Scott Wilson, and Mack Woodard of Trenton.
Re-elected as officers of the board were Jeff Crowley as chairman, Steve Busch as vice chairman, Gloria Carpenter as secretary and Bruce Constant as treasurer. Each of the officers are from Trenton.
Special reports were given by committee chairs, including Gary Black, representing the scholarship committee, who indicated this past academic year has seen one of the largest disbursements in foundation scholarships in the history of the foundation. Black also noted that recent presentations of foundation scholarships for next school year have been presented to 31 students from 28 high schools with financial awards going to students from as far west as St. Joseph and as far east as Clark County in Kahoka. Of the number of recipients, six are high school valedictorians while four are salutatorians and that the average GPA of the applicants was 3.66, indicating a strong academic class for NCMC enrollment in the fall.
Steve Busch, Ways and Means Chairman, announced plans are underway for the fourth annual High School Holiday Hoops to be sponsored by the foundation and set for five days, Dec. 22 and 23 and again on Dec. 29-31 with 48 different boys and girls basketball teams contracted to play in 36 games.
Reporting on behalf of the annual foundation-sponsored Gala, NCMC Foundation Director Steve Maxey announced the date has been set for Saturday, Oct. 11 with nominations for the Distinguished Class of Alumni being accepted until Aug. 1. Both the Gala and the Holiday Hoops will be held in the Ketcham Community Center on the NCMC campus.
Plans were also announced for the groundbreaking of the new allied health classroom complex, set for 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, with Governor Matt Blunt scheduled to be among the platform guests for the special event.
