Funeral services for Robert “Rob” Murphy, will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Dockery Chapel United Methodist Church, located southwest of Trenton. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton.

General visitation is under way at the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton. A family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the church.
Mr. Murphy, a 58-year-old resident of 448 SW 25th St., Trenton, died at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at his home, where he had been under hospice care.
Mr. Murphy was born on May 16, 1949 in Maysville, the son of Francis and Helen Matter Murphy. He was raised at Maysville and graduated from Maysville High School. He attended Northwest Missouri State College at Maryville before enlisting in the United States Army, where he served as a Medic with the 24th Evac Hospital in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he was married on Dec. 17, 1971 in St. Joseph to Linda Stephens. They lived in St. Joseph, where he worked with the section crew and was also a welder for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. They moved near Trenton in 1984 and he continued to work for the Chicago Northwestern as a full-time welder, then for the Union Pacific Railroad when they took over the Chicago Northwestern.
He was a member of the Dockery Chapel United Methodist Church.
Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Linda Murphy of the home; two sons, Robert J. and his wife, Ginger Murphy of Tarkio and Brent A. Murphy and his wife, DeEtta, of Houstonia; two grandchildren, Lindsey and Cole Murphy; four brothers, John, Mike and Paul Murphy all of Maysville and Jim Murphy of Kansas City; three sisters, Margaret Clark of Weatherby, Mary Sue Randolph of Carrollton and Marilyn Garcia of Kansas City; his mother-in-law, Alma Stephens of St. Joseph; and several nieces and nephews, numerous aunts and uncles and a host of cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family has suggested memorials may be left to the Dockery Chapel United Methodist Church, the Wright Memorial Hospice or the American Cancer Society. These may be left at or mailed to the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home at 813 Custer, Trenton, MO 64683.
