Kinder, who has been lieutenant governor since 2004, is also a Lions member. He spoke about how Missouri has seen an increase in revenue since the 2004 elections, along with an increase in job creations and a balanced budget for three years in a row. He also noted that there has been an increase in community health as well as monies for senior citizen meals in the past three years. Prescription drugs for seniors have been made available through Medicare Plan D and the MoRX plan. He said relief is coming for persons on Social Security, retired teachers and those with military pensions who will not have their payments taxed. He said that mental health has taken a major hit in funding and that it is in need of more help.
He said tourism is the second largest industry in Missouri and that professional cyclists from 22 countries will be coming to Missouri to hold a ride that will begin in St. Joseph and cover the state.
Following the presentation, Dr. Holcomb presented a gift from the club to Kinder.
George Moore was in charge of the business meeting. Doris Carter offered the prayer following the pledge to the U.S. flag.
Guests included Cathie Smith, Kerry Sampson and two of Kinder’s aides.
