The North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates got back on the winning track Wednesday, taking a pair of wins on the road over Kansas City Kansas Community College.
The Lady Pirates took game one, 5-1, and game two, 4-1.
NCMC Ends Regular Season On High Note
Kallie Walczak started on the hill for North Central in game one and pitched seven strong innings. Walczak allowed just one run on six hits, while striking out six in the contest. She also helped her cause at the plate, going two-for-four with a home run and two RBI’s.
Kelsie Parker also gave the Lady Pirates a good game. Parker was two-for-four at the plate as well and swiped two bases.
NCMC followed up their game one win with a 4-1 victory in game two. Lauren Cain took the win on the mound, allowing one run on nine hits in seven innings of work. Cain fanned five in the contest.
“Escapability would be a good word to describe Lauren today,” Head Coach Max Mothersbaugh said. “She did a good job pitching herself out of a couple of jams.”
Like Walczak, Cain helped herself out with a strong day offensively. She went two-for-four in the contest, driving in two runs in the process.
“The pitchers really helped their cause today,” Mothersbaugh said. “They both hit and threw really well.”
Raschel Hoeflicker also provided an offensive boost, going three-for-four with the team’s other two RBI’s.
The Lady Pirates also got a lift from a solid defensive effort, an area that hurt them in a doubleheader earlier this week.
“Defensively we were borderline outstanding today,” Mothers-baugh said. “We made some good plays and really looked sharp in the field.”
The wins gave the Lady Pirates a final regular season record of 28-18.
NCMC will return to the diamond at noon on Friday to open the Region 16 Tournament in Columbia. The Lady Pirates, seeded fourth in the double-elimination tournament, will face the number five seed Meramec in their first-round game.
