“This was a good tournament for us,” Coach Mike Bosley said. “Picking up two wins and improving our record to 3-8 helps our confidence. We are looking forward to some competitive matches to finish out our season.”
Trenton fell 4-1 to Savannah in the first match-up. The doubles team of Russ Murphy and Kolton Chenoweth accounted for Trenton’s lone points, taking a 10-7 win over their Savannah counterparts.
Trenton rebounded nicely in the consolation semifinals. The Bulldogs scored a 4-1 win over Maryville to punch their ticket to the consolation finals. Andrew Harrison scored a 10-0 default win and the doubles teams of Murphy and Chenoweth, Kile Brewer and Travis Bruner and Josh Ishmael and Jadeth McCloud all scored victories as well. Murphy and Chenoweth won 10-3, while the other two squads took default wins of 10-0.
In the consolation finals, Trenton grabbed a 3-2 win over Lafayette. Ryan Wright lost the first singles match, but Harrison evened the score with a singles win of his own.
The teams went into the doubles part of the match tied at 1-1. Murphy and Chenoweth lost a close 10-8 match to give Lafayette the lead at 2-1. It was a short-lived lead, however, as the Bulldogs battled back and took the final two doubles matches to score the 3-2 win. Brewer and Bruner won 10-3 and Ishmael and McCloud won 10-0.
The Trenton tennis team will return to the courts on Monday for a makeup match at Savannah. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
