The Trenton High School boys tennis team picked up its first dual win of the season on Tuesday, taking an 8-1 decision at St. Joseph Lafayette.

Trenton won five of six singles matches and all three doubles encounters to get the win. Trenton was also the winner in JV action, 3-0.
Russ Murphy got the Bulldogs off to a good start in singles, defeating Michael Conn, 8-5, at number one singles. Trenton’s only loss of the night came at number two singles, where Kile Brewer lost a close 9-8 decision to Sawyer Hamm, falling 7-3 in the tiebreaker.
Kolton Chenoweth was the number three singles winner, 8-5, over Jake Davis. Travis Bruner won the number four singles over Ryan Shroyer, 8-0. Cody Brown took an 8-1 decision over Cody Langley at number five singles and Josh Ishmael rounded out singles action with an 8-2 victory over Harrison Stover at number six.
Murphy-Chenoweth teamed up for an 8-5 win over Conn-Davis at number one doubles. Brewer-Bruner were 9-4 winners over Hamm-Shroyer at number two while Brown-Ishmael took an 8-3 victory over Langley-Stover.
“This was a great win for our team,” THS Coach Mike Bosley said. “We have faced such tough competition. It felt good to be able to breath and play competitive tennis. All of the boys played well.”
In JV action, Ryan Wright defeated Juan Boguin, 6-1, and Andrew Harrison downed Corey Stover, 6-0, in singles. Wright-Harrison teamed up for a 6-1 win over Stover-Andy Troutman in doubles.
The Trenton team is entered in the Benton-Savannah Tournament on Thursday. The event gets under way at 8 a.m.
