North Central controlled the opening contest right from the first inning, when Raschel Hoeflicker drove in two runs with a base hit over the out-stretched arm of the Highland shortstop. The shot scored Kelsie Parker and Kallie Walczak and gave the Lady Pirates a lead they would not relinquish.
Hoeflicker finished the game one-for-two at the plate and racked up three RBI’s in the contest. Erica Carr also had a big game as a run producer, knocking in two runs while scoring one herself. Walczak had the team’s final RBI and also scored one of the runs in the first inning.
On the hill Walczak pitched another gem, taking the win in the process. Walczak went the distance, pitching all seven innings, and struck out seven Highland batters.
Following the runaway victory in game one, the Lady Pirates delivered in their bid for a sweep, taking a one-run win in game two.
Lauren Cain was the winning pitcher for North Central, pitching all seven innings. Cain allowed two runs off just six hits and struck out two.
The Lady Pirate offense got the job done at the plate, scoring just enough runs to win. Megan Watkins had a solid game at the plate, going two-for-three with one of the team’s three RBI’s. The other two runs were knocked in by Meghan Oden and Nikki D’Aurelio, each of whom had one hit in the game.
“We played really well,” Head Coach Max Mothersbaugh said. “We had two different scenarios and got wins in both. The first game we had a small lead and blew it open late, and in the second game we had to handle a lot of adversity. Our kids didn’t let anything get to them and we were able to win the game in the final inning. It was as good a team win as I can ever remember having.”
The win boosted the Lady Pirates’ record on the season up over .500, setting it at 12-11.
NCMC will return to action on Friday when they travel to Marshall for a pair of contests with the Missouri Valley junior varsity. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
