Two FCCLA teams from Trenton High School have qualified for competition at the national level following the state FCCLA convention Monday and Tuesday in Columbia, where the Trenton Middle School Chapter was named the Most Active Chapter in Missouri.
FCCLA Chapters Find Success At State
The THS National Programs in Action and Recycle and Redesign junior teams will be headed to the national contest later this summer in Orlando, FL. They received a gold award and finished as the top teams in the state. The THS chapter also had several other teams earning Gold, Silver and Bronze awards during the contest as well as several chapter honors.
The National Programs in Action Team includes Kristyn Keith, Ashley Gross, Alexandria Bain and Hannah Griffin. They were recognized for explaining how the planning process was used to plan and implement a national program project.
The Recycle and Redesign Team members are Ashley Armstrong, Jessica Davis and Ellen Stevenson. Their award came for selecting a used fashion or home apparel item to recycle into a new product.
The Financial Planning junior team of Dalton Triplett and Zach Brewer earned a Silver Award and was first in state, but did not qualify for the national contest. Also finishing first in state, but not qualifying for the national contest, was Olivia Helmandollar, who competed in the junior impromptu speaking contest.
Receiving second place in the state was the Chapter Showcase Senior Display Team of Molly Holeman, Elizabeth Hoffman, Lindsay Creason and Kimby Brown; the Chapter Showcase Manual Senior Team of Scott Mayfield, Shelby Muff and Erika Ebersold; and the Chapter Showcase Manual Junior Team of Jordan Cox, Chelsey Dean, Samantha Lynch and Bailey Brown. All received a Gold Award.
The senior National Programs in Action Team earned a Gold Award. Team members were Jessica Dannatt, Jennie Washburn, Aubrey Utley and Leslie Hamilton. Wendi Hammett received a Gold Award in the Toward New Horizons, junior contest.

Chapter Service Project, senior manual – Crystal Pash, Tasha Hutchinson, Callie Bacon, Lauren Gray, John Ray, Mike Kurtz and Hannah Barron.
Chapter Service Project, junior manual – Taylor Shuler, Kasey Roderick and Tiffany Johnson.
Illustrated Talk, senior – Ryan Ferguson, Scott Stevens, Kyle Hoyt, Jim Weaver and JaNea Whitney.

Interpersonal Communications, senior – Emily Smith, Lindsey Dustman and Stephanie Bramblett.

The THS chapter received second place as the most active chapter in Missouri for high schools with enrollments of 400 or less. It was also recognized as the largest chapter in the state for high schools with enrollments of 400 or less (180). The chapter received Show Me 5 membership recognition as well as being named a STAR chapter for membership recruitment. Other awards received were FACTS (Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety), Community Service, Financial Fitness, STOP the Violence, Career Connection and Show Me Missouri Teen Times.
Members participating in the convention in other capacities included Camie Steinhoff, current Region 2 vice president; Jessica Dannatt, installed as state vice president for 2008-2009; Christa Tate, Region 2 reporter; Loren Ross, Region 2 historian; Jadeth McCloud, STAR Event youth consultant for financial planning, junior/senior; Hadley Jennings, STAR Event evaluator for chapter service project display, junior; Kody Hicks, STAR Event evaluator for impromptu speaking, junior/senior; and Tasha Ewing, Lindsey Derry and Emily Anderson, voting delegates.
THS social studies instructor Mike Tipton was a STAR Event evaluator for chapter service project display, junior, and attended the conference along with science teacher Shannon Mason. Connie Hoffman is the THS FCCLA advisor.
Trenton Middle School
The TMS Chapter was named the most active chapter in the state and is the third largest middle school chapter in the state, with 115 members. The chapter received Show Me 5 Missouri membership recognition. Other state and national program awards received included community service, Families First and Show Me Missouri Teen Times. Stacey Ireland received the Power of One Award.
Two TMS teams competed in Missouri Only Events, not eligible for national competition, and earned first place. Mackenzie Mack and Shelby Chaney’s Public Service Announcement Project earned gold and was named first in state. Alyssa Schultz’s Toward New Horizons project also earned gold and was first in state. Victoria McGee’s Toward New Horizons project also earned a gold.
Other teams earning Gold Awards included the Junior Manual Project, with team members Haley Creason, Alexis Whitney and Kaylee Lickteig, who earned second in state; and the Applied Technology Team, comprised of Haley Purkapile, Chandler Wilson and Kate Lowrey.
Earning the Silver Award were the Chapter Showcase Team, with members Maddie Hooyman, Katie Lenhart and Avery Whitaker, and Focus on Children, a team made up of Ashley Osborn, Kendra Lickteig and Monica Weaver. Morgan Brown’s Career Investigation project also earned a Silver Award.
Voting delegates included Stacey Ireland and Chanel Pash. The students were accompanied by Advisor Suzi Beck and Penny Roberts.
