Kindergarten screenings will be held Wednesday, March 26 and Thursday, March 27 for children in the Trenton R-9 School District. The screenings will be offered for children who will be five years old before Aug. 1. Those students will be eligible to attend the R-9 kindergarten in the fall.
R-9 Kindergarten Screening
Parents must bring the required documents for school enrollment with them to the screening. Those documents include the child’s immunization record, Social Security card and a legal birth certificate (which does not include a hospital certificate). Official birth certificates may be obtained through the Grundy County Health Department. These documents, along with proof of residency, will be checked the day of the child’s screening. Without the documents, students cannot be enrolled for the fall.
Among the items to be assessed in the screening are communication skills such as stating a complete name, birthday, phone number, address and parent’s name as well as pre-academic readiness skills such as numbers, letters, colors, shapes, cutting and pencil skills. The children will also be asked to complete self-care tasks such as tying shoes, zipping a coat and buttoning pants.
The screening will be held at the Early Childhood Building, located at 800 Kumler St. Screening hours will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and appointments can be made by calling the Rissler Elementary School office at 359-2228.
