The Princeton Tigers had a busy weekend of basketball as they hosted King City on Friday night, and traveled to Albany on Saturday for a make-up game. The Lady Tigers scored a 42-33 win over King City, but followed it up with a 67-38 loss to a strong Albany team. The boys meanwhile, grabbed a 61-47 win over King City, but fell to Albany, 57-49.
Princeton Tiger Teams See Busy Weekend Of Action
Tigers
Friday night’s game with King City was all Princeton as the Tigers dominated the first three quarters to take the victory.
Princeton jumped out to a 16-12 lead after one period and dominated King City in the second quarter to take a 26-19 advantage at the half. The Tigers used a strong defense in the third quarter, holding King City to just five points while scoring 16 of their own to take a 42-24 lead heading into the final period of play.
Mace Ormsby put in 22 points to pace Princeton’s offensive attack while Ethan Stark and Cory Teeter put in 15 each. King City was led by Jarrod Hutchcraft with 24. Seth Slayden added 11 points.
A strong second and third quarter by Albany kept the Tigers from getting a victory on Saturday.
Both teams came out in the first quarter on an even pace, with the game being tied 12-12 after eight minutes of play. The Warriors outscored Princeton in the second quarter by four points to take a 27-23 halftime advantage.
Albany put the game away in the third quarter, outdueling Princeton by seven points to go up 44-33 with one period left to play. Princeton outscored the Warriors by three in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as Albany came out on top to get the win.
Jordan Richman put in 14 points to pace Princeton while Brycen Stark added 12. Albany was led by Jeff Lloyd with 14. Clint Richardson and Nathan Adams scored 12 each and Landon Crawford put in 10 points.
The Tigers are 11-11 overall and 4-4 in the GRC.
Lady Tigers
Like the boys, the Princeton Lady Tigers also split their games over the weekend, coming out on top over King City, but falling to Albany.
On Friday night, a strong fourth quarter proved the difference for the Lady Tigers, who battled back and forth with King City during the first three periods.
The Lady Tigers found themselves down by 10 in the early going as they could muster just three points and were down, 13-3. Princeton was able to cut the lead by four points as they scored 10 points to King City’s six. At halftime, the Lady Tigers trailed, 19-13.
King City added to its lead in the third quarter, outscoring Princeton, 10-8. But the fourth quarter was all Princeton as they put up 21 points while keeping King City to just four and giving the Lady Tigers a nine-point win.
Samantha Brewer put in 14 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Rachael Pollard added 11 points. King City was led by Courtney Walters with 10 points.
It was all Albany in Saturday’s match-up as Princeton found themselves dominated throughout the contest.
The Lady Warriors took a 10-point first quarter lead, 18-8, and never looked back. The Princeton girls trailed at the half, 31-16, and found themselves behind after three quarters, 50-28.
Pollard led Princeton with 11 points while Christy Hart contributed 10. Albany was led by Melissa McGinley with 18. Claire Youngclaus scored 15 points and Katie Bridges put in 12 points.
The Lady Tigers are 12-10 overall and 4-4 in the GRC.
The Princeton teams are at home on Friday night, taking on Gilman City in a pair of non-conference contests. The girls game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. with the boys contest to follow.
