Grundy County voters favored Sen. John McCain, Sen. Hilary Clinton and Wayne Root during Tuesday’s Presidential Primary voting.

Republicans chose McCain over Mike Huckabee, but just barely, as the Arizona politician received 377 votes, compared to 361 for the former Arkansas governor. Ron Paul finished third among Republican candidates with 210 votes, followed by Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney with 122. Other Republicans receiving votes were Fred Thompson, 10; Rudy Giuliani, 5; Tom Tancredo, 2; and Alan Keyes, 1. There were 6 who voted as uncommitted.
Sen. Clinton received 485 votes among the Democrats on the ballot while Sen. Barack Obama was second with 323. Finishing third in the voting was former Sen. John Edwards. Others on the Democrat ballot receiving votes were Bill Richardson, 1, and Joe Biden, 1. There were 6 uncommitted votes.
Root was the only votegetter among Libertarians with 3 votes. There were 2 uncommitted votes.
A total of 1,940 persons cast votes in the election, which represented approximately 28 percent of those registered to vote in the county.
