City Clerk Phillip Shepherd said Rebecca Burns was appointed to fill a seat on the council that was vacated by the resignation of Robert Taylor on Jan. 17. Ms. Burns, who has filed for a two-year term on the council, will fill the vacancy until the April election at which time a person will be elected to serve the one-year unexpired term. Shepherd said no one filed for the seat during the filing period, so write-ins will be counted. If no one files as a write-in, someone will be appointed to fill the term. Taylor has also served as mayor pro-tem and Maria Messer was appointed to fill that position.
In other business, the council tabled the purchase of computer software until more information can be obtained and learned that the city has received a USDA grant for a tractor and sickle mower. After the city receives the letter of conditions, the items will be purchased.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 3.
