JV Girls
The girls game featured two squads that, at least on paper, appeared to be evenly matched. Trenton held a 7-6 lead at the end of the first period and held only a two-point lead at the half, when they went into the locker room up 16-14. The low-scoring game continued into the second half, however, the Lady Bulldogs pulled away slightly in the third quarter, going into the final period with a four-point lead, 22-18. Trenton added two points to its advantage in the fourth quarter to take the win and even its record at 5-5 on the season.
Aubrey Utley got the job done for the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points, while Kylie Russell had six and Hadley Jennings put in four points. Taylor Lynch added three points and Bailey Brown had two for Trenton.
JV Coach Susie Vandevender saw some improvement in the team, but is looking for more offense.
“The girls played a good game. We kept our turnovers down, but we just have to make our baskets,” she said.
The JV girls will be in action tonight at Lawson.
JV Boys
The boys wasted no time in putting some space between themselves and Gallatin, scoring 20 points in the first quarter and allowing Gallatin to put in only three. Gallatin made a run late in the second quarter to cut the lead to 11 at the half, with Trenton on top 26-15. A very physical second half found Trenton outscored 15-11 in the third period and taking a slim 37-30 lead into the final quarter. Big man Levi Silkwood would not be denied, however, scoring 14 of the team’s 22 second-half points, including nine points in the fourth quarter alone. On the strength of Silkwood, who was playing with four fouls, THS held on for the victory.
Coach Adam Clark praised his team’s tenacity and the play of Silkwood, who had a game-high 19 points. Dakota Banks added nine for THS, while Garth Griswold and Travis Bruner both contributed eight points to the win. K. Croy led Gallatin with 12 points.
The JV boys are now 3-8 on the season and will take on St. Joseph LeBlond at 6 o’clock tonight in the Trenton Middle School gym.
