A close back-and-forth game was broken open in the fourth quarter by the Trenton Lady Bulldogs Wednesday night in the Hamilton Tournament. Trenton was locked in a duel with Maysville for three quarters, but when the game entered the fourth, the Lady Bulldogs came to life. Trenton went on a 19-8 run in the final frame to turn a one-point deficit into a 45-35 victory.

Trenton opened the game displaying some strong defense, but their offense couldn’t quite get started. After a quarter of play, Trenton led 9-4. Maysville battled back in the second quarter. The Lady Wolverines held Trenton to just seven points while putting up 12 of their own to come back and tie the game just before halftime. As the two teams headed for the locker rooms, they were all knotted up, 16-16.
When the teams resumed play in the third quarter, it was again a close battle. Neither team could gain a clear advantage. Going into the fourth quarter, Maysville had edged ahead to a 27-26 lead. That is when the Lady Bulldogs took off.
One quarter of play made a big difference. The Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Wolverines up and down the court as they ran away with the win.
Trenton was strong from the free throw line in the game, hitting 18-of-22.
Aimee Gutshall had a big game, putting up 17 points, 11 of which came from the free throw line, where she was 11-of-12 and led all scorers. Rebekah Capeder also hit double figures for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring 12 points. Liz Hoffman continued her recent string of good games, scoring seven points and had the team’s only three-point field goal. Lindsey Derry also scored seven points in a strong showing.
Maysville was led by Britani Horsman, who scored 11 points.
“We won the game on the foul line by hitting 18-of-22,” Head Coach Quinten Albrecht said. “We had balanced scoring for the second game in a row.”
The Lady Bulldogs, now 4-10 on the season, clinched a trip to the Hamilton Tournament consolation final on Friday with the win. Trenton will face off with the winner of the West Platte-Richmond game to be played this afternoon at 4:30.
