Violet Chassie Nickell, a 95-year-old resident of Lineville, IA, died on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008 at the Corydon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Corydon, IA.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville. Rev. Leroy Perkins will officiate.
Open visitation and viewing will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Lineville.
Mrs. Nickell was born on Dec. 17, 1912 on the family farm northeast of Lineville, the daughter of Oscar N. “Ott” and Jessie Mae Elson McClain.
She was raised and lived most of her life in the Lineville community. She was married on Nov. 29, 1929 to George Perry Nickell, who preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 1978. In the mid 1990’s, Mrs. Nickell moved from the farm to an apartment in Lineville.
She was a member of the Lineville United Methodist Church, the Fidelity Rebekah Lodge No. 272 and the Mt. Olive Garden Club in Lineville. She enjoyed crafts and flower gardening.
Mrs. Nickell is survived by a son, Jerry Nickell and his wife, June, of Corydon; a daughter, Bonnie Waugh and her husband, Donald, of Leon, IA; eight grandchildren, Michael, Randy, Barbara, Janet, Julie, Roddy, Becky and Scarlett; one sister, Helen Gatrel of St. Joseph; and several great- and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and infant daughter, Dolores Nickell; a great-granddaughter, Emily Elizabeth Clark; a great-great-granddaughter, Marie Christine Nickell; nine brothers, Ben, Evoritt, Ivan, Ilo, Guy, Claude, William, Clair and Dale McClain; and two sisters, Nellie Murphy and Margie Moore.
