Trenton’s standout running back De’Andre Vandevender announced last Thursday that he has verbally committed to the University of Northern Iowa.

Vandevender chose Northern Iowa over South Dakota State, Southern Illinois, Murray State and Northwest Missouri State. Vandevender was recruited as an athlete by Northern Iowa, but has been told he will have the opportunity to play running back. Vandevender is expected to officially sign on with Northern Iowa on Wednesday, Feb. 6, which is the National Signing Day for Division I football.
During Vandevender’s career at Trenton he set several school records, including the career rushing record with 5,407 yards. During the past season. Vandevender ran for 2,680 yards, the second-highest total in the state for 2007.
