Rossie O. Buchtel, a 98-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at Pearl’s II Eden for Elders in Princeton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton. Pastor Robin Banion will officiate. Burial will be in the Princeton Cemetery.
Open visitation is under way at the funeral home, where a family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Buchtel was born on June 27, 1909 in Princeton, the daughter of James Emra and Alma Cleamtha McDonald Ruth. She was raised in Princeton and graduated from Princeton High School. Following high school, she taught school at the Pleasant Ridge rural school for two year.
She was married on Aug. 27, 1929 to Frank Willard Buchtel, who preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 2005. The couple moved to Scottsbluff, NE in 1929 then to Aurora, IL in 1936, where she received a bachelor of arts degree from Aurora College and later her graduate degree in library science from the University of Chicago. In 1941, the couple moved to Chicago Heights, IL, where he was a coach and athletic director and she taught school and was school librarian for many years. After their retirement in 1968, they returned to Princeton and she continued her teaching career at Trenton Junior College (now known as North Central Missouri College). She was active in the Princeton United Methodist Church and PEO and enjoyed playing bridge.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Duerst of Reno, NV; two grandchildren, Dan Duerst of Roseburg, OR and Debra McNeil and her husband, Dave, of Gardnerville, NV; two great-grandchildren, Kelly and Logan McNeil; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, Elmer Duerst; two brothers, David and Mack Ruth; and two sisters, Vera Kesterson and Mildred Jean Ruth.
