Lady Pirates
The Lady Pirates ran into a tough Meramec team, which jumped out to the lead early in the contest. NCMC hung with Meramec for a while, but could not keep pace as they fell off. At the half, the Lady Pirates trailed 38-23.
In the second half, Meramec continued to pull away slowly. At the game’s conclusion, Meramec had taken the win.
The Lady Pirates were led by Cassie Hunt yet again. Hunt continued her streak of double-doubles, scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Starr Taylor also had her second-straight double double, racking up 16 points and 11 rebounds.
NCMC dropped to 7-11 on the season with the loss. The Lady Pirates will return to the court on Tuesday when they travel to Nevada, MO to take on Cottey College
Pirates
The NCMC men battled in a close game, but came up short in the end.
The Pirates went back-and-forth throughout the first half, playing with Meramec every step of the way. The Pirates continued to play well in the second half and only trailed by two with four minutes to go. Meramec pushed its advantage and extended the lead, forcing the Pirates into fouling. Meramec connected on the free throws, going on to take the win.
“We didn’t turn the ball over as much and we took a lot more high percentage shots,” Head Coach Steve Richman said. “Although we didn’t get the win, I think we made a lot of progress.”
NCMC was led by Martin Roper, who poured in 16 points. Byron Bundy was right behind him with 15 points and Devin Eighmey added 11. Brandon Thomas rounded out the Pirates double-figure performers, scoring 10.
The Pirates fell to 6-12 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Marshall to face Missouri Valley.
