Boys
The Hawks were unable to score a victory in their matchup with the Warriors as they fell.
Gilman City came out a bit slow and fell behind 16-7 in the first quarter. The Hawks battled back in the second quarter, however. Strong post play by senior Blake Johnson got Gilman back into the game. The Hawks outscored the Warriors 15-11 to cut the Albany lead to 27-22 at the half.
The Warriors went on a run in the third quarter to end the Gilman City threat. With just one quarter to play, Gilman trailed by 17 points, 47-30. The Hawks closed the gap a little in the final frame, but still wound up 12 points short as they fell.
“They shot very well in the third quarter and started to pull away,” Head Coach Brent Burke said. “We just couldn’t slow them down. Our rebounding has to improve for us to compete against bigger teams.”
Johnson led the way for the Hawks, scoring 18 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Chris Hulett also hit double figures for the Hawks, scoring 10 points.
Gilman dropped to 4-5 with the loss.
Both Gilman teams will be back in action on Monday, Jan. 14 for a pair of makeup games at Gallatin.
