Former Trenton business owner Mildred Barnes, an 88-year-old resident of the Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton, died at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008 at the care center, where she had resided since July 18, 1999.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Mortuary at Trenton. Burial will be in the family lots at Resthaven Memorial Gardens at Trenton.
General visitation will begin after 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008 at the mortuary.
Mrs. Barnes was born June 9, 1919 at the Culler’s Hospital in Trenton, the daughter of William S. and Josephine Boyd Daniels. She graduated from Galt High School in 1937 and from Chillicothe Business College on April 25, 1938.
On March 19, 1940, she was married to Donald Barnes at Trenton. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1986. The couple owned and managed Barnes Greenhouses, Inc. in Trenton for over 40 years.
Mrs. Barnes was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Grundy County Museum, Wright Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution, PEO, Girl Scouts of America and Antique Study Club.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by a daughter, Donna, now Mrs. Larry Christy, of Trenton; three granddaughters, Beth, now Mrs. Mike Mack of Trenton; Becky Boehner of Olathe, KS; and Brooke, now Mrs. Brandt Boland of Lenexa, KS; three step-grandchildren, Eric and Josh Christy of Trenton, and Holly Lehmann of Kirksville; five great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Jo Barnes in 1989, three brothers and five sisters.
The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to Wright Memorial Hospice, the Grundy County Museum, Wright Memorial Auxiliary or the donor’s choice.
