The Great Green Hills Weight Loss Challenge may be just the ticket.
Weight Loss Challenge Planned For January, February
Sponsored by the Grundy County Health Department, the Ketcham Community Center and the Trenton Republican-Times, the event is being offered at no cost to individuals wanting a healthy way to lose weight. In addition, prizes are to be offered to the top seven individuals who lose the largest percentage of weight during the Challenge, which begins on Thursday, Jan. 3 and Friday, Jan. 4 and continues through Feb. 29.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age or have a signed parental permission slip in order to take part. Persons will go to the Ketcham Community Center on Jan. 3 or Jan. 4 for their first weigh in to determine the weight that will be used throughout the eight-week contest. Participants will be weighed in sock feet and one layer of clothing to provide consistency.
Weigh-in will be held each week on Thursday or Friday at the KCC and participants must be weighed each week on one of those two days in order to be eligible for prizes. All weight information will be kept confidential, however, participant names and percentage of weight lost will be published each week in the Republican-Times on Monday, starting with week one. No actual weight number will be published.
At the end of the contest, the person losing the biggest percentage of weight will receive a $450 cash prize. Second place will receive $300 and third place will get $150, all provided by the Grundy County Health Depart-ment. The top 25 percent of those losing weight will also be entered in a random drawing for one of two one-year subscriptions to the Republican-Times and one of two one-year memberships to the Ketcham Community Center.
For more information about the competition, persons can call the Grundy County Health Depart-ment at 359-4196.
