R-5 Board Sets Filing Dates

Filing dates were set for the April 8 election and principal reports were given during a meeting Thursday evening of the Grundy R-5 Board of Education in Galt.

Superintendent Rob Deaver reported that the board reviewed and approved program evaluations in the areas of Parents as Teachers and English Language Learner. Teacher reports were also given in the areas of secondary science, math, physical education and third grade. The board reviewed and tabled a board policy update.
Elementary Principal Lisa Fairley said attendance at her school was 95.65 percent for November, with 47 students receiving perfect attendance for the month of November and 52 students being eligible for the Principal’s Reading Club. Mrs. Fairley updated the board on several upcoming activities, including the elementary Christmas program, set for 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Humphreys school.
Secondary Principal Randy Huffman noted that attendance at the high school building was 94.79 percent for the year. The November Students of the Month were recognized, as well as eighth grade student Shelbi Stimpson, who made first chair tenor saxophone, and junior Kali Tucker, who made second chair clarinet in the All-HDC band. He also updated the board on upcoming events and the field tests for the end-of-course exams that will replace high school MAP tests in Spring 2009.
The board set the filing dates for the April 8 election, which are Dec. 18 through Jan. 22, 2008 during hours in which the school is open for regular business. The district office will close at 12:40 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21 and reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008. The terms of Damon Neff, Allen Berry and Dennis McDonald will expire.
A closed session was held to discuss student and personnel matters, with no announcement made.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Jan. 10.
