The Trenton Middle School eighth grade basketball teams each captured third-place titles in the Brookfield Tournament on Friday night. The girls squad beat Cameron, 39-7, and the boys also defeated Cameron, 35-22.

Lady Bulldogs
The Lady Bulldogs set the tone early, jumping out to a 16-2 lead on the Lady Dragons in the first quarter. Trenton continued to over-power Cameron, outscoring the Lady Dragons 11-1 in the second quarter. At the half, Trenton led 27-3.
Trenton closed out the game with a 12-4 run in the second half to easily clinch the third-place trophy.
Halie Brewer scored a game-high 12 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Chanel Pash also had a big night, giving Trenton eight points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs moved to 9-3 on the season with the win.
Bulldogs
The boys game was a little closer, but Trenton got the job done again as the Bulldogs took a win to clinch their own third-place title.
Trenton jumped out to a 5-3 lead in a very defensive first quarter. In the second quarter, both offenses opened up, but neither team could gain an advantage. At the break, Trenton and Cameron stood tied at 15-15.
Another back-and-forth quarter in the third period put the game at a 22-22 tie with one quarter to go.
The Bulldogs rose to the occasion, shutting out Cameron in the final frame. Trenton scored 13 points while keeping Cameron off the scoreboard, allowing the Bulldogs to pull away for the 35-22 victory.
Trenton was led by Keegan McGinness, who scored a team-high 11 points in the game. Brennon Vandevender and Austin Taul also had good nights, pouring in nine and eight points respectively.
The Bulldogs improved to 3-9 with the win.
All four middle school squads will be in action on Tuesday, when Trenton travels to Carrollton for play with the Trojans.
