NCMC Development Director Steve Maxey said the event will be held Dec. 27-29 and 31 at the Ketcham Community Center, with 38 teams from 22 high schools playing. While the event is a fund-raiser for the NCMC Foundation, Maxey noted it is also a way to showcase the college and what it has to offer as well as provide an economic boon to the community. A committee of nine individuals have been planning this year’s event. According to KCC Director Steve Ockenfels, the shoot-out is the biggest event of the year for the center, with 12 employees working up to 15 hours a day as well as over 300 volunteers helping with such things as ticket sales, keeping the scorebook, running the clock, etc. This year individuals will be utilized as hosts for the teams.
Tickets will be sold in sessions of four games each at a cost of $5 per adult or $4 for students. A tournament-long pass can also be purchased for $45 for families, $20 for adults and $15 for students.
Trenton High School Athletic Director Kris Ockenfels, a member of the committee, talked about the school’s involvement as the affiliated school host. He talked about the advantages of playing in the event and that Trenton plans to continue being associated with the shoot-out as long as it is in operation.
During the business meeting, it was announced that additional bellringers are needed for Dec. 18 and that members could contact Tom Witten, who is doing the scheduling.
Members were reminded that next week’s meeting would be the club Christmas party and would be held at 6:30 p.m. at the church.
