It was a less-than-stellar night for the Grundy R-5 teams as they dropped a pair of contests on the road to Tina-Avalon.
R-5 Teams fall to Tina-Avalon
The Lady Panthers fell behind 23 points in the first quarter and could never catch up, as the R-5 girls took a 66-22 loss.
Tina-Avalon was up 37-12 at halftime and padded the lead in the third quarter, extending its advantage to 52-16 heading into the fourth period of play.
Heather Vivone put up nine points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace the R-5 girls, now 0-5. Mina Headrick added six points and five rebounds.
The Grundy R-5 boys found it tough going on the offensive end of the floor as the Panthers fell to Tina-Avalon, 54-28.
R-5 could muster just seven points in the first two periods and trailed at halftime, 33-7.
“Poor shooting plagued us all night,” said R-5 Coach Les Jackson.
The Panthers, now 0-5, hit just 21 percent from the field and were only 26 percent from the free throw line.
Tina-Avalon added one more point to its lead in the third quarter and was up 34-23 to start the fourth period.
Bryce Rains led the R-5 squad with 11 points and three steals. Tyler Jackson collected nine points, seven rebounds and five assists. Rob Crawford grabbed nine rebounds.
The R-5 teams will host Cainsville on Friday night in an HDC Conference matchup, beginning at 6 o’clock.
