Norman Ancil Jones, a 91-year-old resident of Mercer, died on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton. Rev. Jennifer Jennings will officiate. Burial will be in the Princeton Cemetery.
An open visitation is under way and a family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 at the funeral home.
Mr. Jones was born on July 31, 1916 on the family farm west of Mercer, the son of William C. and Fannie Victoria Moore Jones. He was a lifelong farmer and resident of Mercer County, graduating from Mercer High School. He was a member of the former Mercer Christian Church and served on the board of education at the Mercer schools for several years. He was a co-founder of the Mercer Lions Club and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball and University of Missouri football fan.
He was married on March 24, 1940 to Hyldred Ledonnia Derry, who preceded him in death on Aug. 4, 1994.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheri McHargue and her husband, Nick, of Trenton and Derry Fishman and her husband, Steve, of North Miami Beach, FL; one sister, Marcellee Retherford of Highpoint, NC; five grandchildren, NiCole Neal and her husband, Vince, of Trenton, NiChea Spillman and her husband, Jason, of Trenton, Nicholas McHargue and his wife, Karen, of Columbia, Ashli Fishman of Denver, CO and Seth Fishman of Chicago, IL; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Elle Neal and Grady and Grant Spillman; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Letha Russell.
