Thomas, the son of Phillip and Carol Thomas graduated from Trenton High School in 1997 and in 1999 moved to New York City to pursue his career in entertainment. He got an early start in the business when he and his mother moved to New York in 1992 for Thomas to star in his first Broadway show “The Secret Garden.”
While living in New York, Thomas appeared on the television show, “Ed McMahon’s Star Search,” earning a perfect score from the judges and beating out a then unknown, Britney Spears.
In 2004, Thomas was cast in the Broadway musical, “Wicked.” He performed with the cast on The Tony Awards and The Today Show. He spent three years with “Wicked,” leaving in 2006 to travel the world, performing aboard several major cruise lines. He has released several dance songs with major international distribution. One of his songs, “Resurrect Me (Lift Me Up),” was named the 2002 song of the year by Billboard magazine in both the Gospel/Contemporary Christian and Dance categories. The song also received four Grammy nominations that same year.
He has also been featured on 20/20, VH1, MTV, Oxygen, BRAVO, Inside Edition, Entertainment Tonight, The View and Jay Leno.
Thomas’ latest project is a new Broadway musical called “Xanadu.” He has been working on the show since November of 2006 and the show opened on Broadway in July of 2007 at the Helen Hayes Theatre In New York. The show has received rave reviews across the board from every major news publication.
Mid-summer, Thomas had a serious fall during a performance, fracturing both of his ankles. After three months of rehab, he has returned to the show on Nov. 1 and is once again, performing eight shows a week.
The show is selling out nightly and has become a crowd favorite of both New York locals and tourists alike. The cast has been selected to perform on the CBS “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” on Thursday. “Xanadu” will join the lineup of Broadway musicals and stars to perform at the annual parade on Nov. 22. The performance will be a medley of the songs “All Over The World”, “Magic” and “Xanadu” featuring Kerry Butler, Cheyenne Jackson, Curtis Holbrook, Anika Larsen, Kenita Miller, Andre Ward, Patti Murin, Thomas and Ryan Watkinson.
CBS will broadcast the parade from 8 to 11 a.m.
Thomas has been performing with some of the most prominent entertainers in the industry. He spent the summer touring with Michael Bolton, 80s pop star Debbie Gibson, and up and coming recording artist Kelly King, while working in the recording studio on two of his own albums.
