Her formative years were spent in north Missouri and Nemaha, NE. She graduated from Blythedale, MO, High School in 1951. At an early age she was converted to Christianity in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and remained faithful to her religion her entire life.
Vera was married to Albert Dean Cross, son of Raymond R. Cross and Evah Maude (Johnson) Cross on June 30, 1951. To this union two sons were born: Greg Cross of Trenton and Brad Cross of Nevada, IA. Greg is married to the former Connie Cooksey and they have three children, Jacob and his wife, Staci, Ashlea and her husband, Travis Watson, and Ethan. Brad is married to the former Teresa Hawkins and they have two sons, Alexander and Zachary.
She has been an active member of the First Christian Church in Trenton since 1963. She served as a youth Sunday school teacher and a member of the Church Board for many years. She was a member of the Trenton Park Board, member of Church Women United and co-founder of the Church Women United Thrift Store, member of the Wright Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Missouri State Medical Association Auxiliary, the Grand River Medical Society Auxiliary and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. Since her retirement from being a medical receptionist in 1995, her main areas of outside interest have been her church and the local college, North Central Missouri College.
Vera was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and friend. She was the ultimate lady whose most important possessions were her family and friends. She could always accommodate another friend and retained old friends, many of whom transcend over five decades. She loved to play tennis and bridge. She enjoyed many wonderful vacations with family and friends, but for Vera there was no better place to be than sitting on her patio, watching the sun set over Mockingbird Hill. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and expressed regret that she would not be able to see them all grown.
In addition to her immediate family, Vera’s death is mourned by her four siblings: Anna Allen (Bob) of Eagleville, Betty Lou Floyd (Larry) and Shirley Kay Reilly (Ed) of El Dorado Springs and Harold Thompson (Kay) of Claremore, OK; many nieces, nephews, in-laws and countless other family and friends. Her life is a golden memory which we will take with us to our final rest.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the North Central Missouri College Allied Health Construction Fund or the Trenton Park Board in care of Resthaven Mortuary, 310 N. Highway 65, Trenton, MO 64683.
