Princeton fell behind early and trailed throughout the game until the fourth quarter, when the Tigers outscored Maysville 14-0 to take the win.
Maysville struck first on a 52-yard pass play to Trent Best midway through the first quarter. It would be the only score of the quarter, leaving the Tigers trailing 7-0 going into the second quarter.
Maysville pushed the lead to 14 early in the second quarter when Best ran one in from 23 yards out.
Princeton was quick to respond, scoring their first touchdown of the night shortly thereafter. Brad Brundage scored on the ground on an eight-yard run. Princeton got two more when quarterback Troy Meinke hit Ethan Stark on the conversion try.
Maysville burnt Princeton yet again with 6:20 to play in the half. Best got his second rushing touchdown, running in from 44 yards out. A two-point try failed, however, leaving the Tigers trailing 20-8.
Morgan Duff made his first visit to the end zone just before the half. The Tigers’ two-point try failed, however, and Princeton trailed 20-14 going into half time.
The third quarter was marked by a defensive struggle as both teams found it difficult to score on their opponent.
It was Maysville who broke the drought first, as Best broke another long one, going 52 yards for the touchdown. The two-point try failed, however, giving Maysville a 26-14 advantage heading into the final quarter of play.
Princeton had saved their best for last as they broke out of their slump in the final quarter of play. Brundage scored on a 14 yard run with 8:56 left to play. Brundage scored on the two-point try as well to put the Tigers within four points, 26-22.
With just 5:12 left, Duff scored from five yards out. The two-point try failed, however, leaving the Tigers with a 28-26 lead.
That would be all the Tigers needed as the defense shut down any attempts Maysville made at a late rally. The win put Princeton into the Class 1 quarter-finals, and bumped their record up to 9-2.
