The Trenton Middle School girls and boys basketball teams kicked off their seasons in Milan Monday night. Two girls games and one boys game were played. The girls took both games over the Lady Wildcats, while the boys fell in their lone matchup.

TMS Girls
The seventh grade squad took the court first and handed the Lady Wildcats a 28-10 loss.
Trenton displayed some strong defense in the first quarter, keeping Milan off the scoreboard. Trenton took a 6-0 lead into the second period, where the Lady Bulldogs proceeded to blow the game open with a 9-2 run. The Lady Bulldogs led at the half, 15-2.
The second half was more of the same as Trenton cruised to the win.
Maddy Hooyman led the charge for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring a game-high 13 points. Avery Whitaker chipped in six points.
The Lady Bulldogs were equally as dominant in the eighth grade game, winning 39-21.
Trenton held a narrow 6-2 lead after the first quarter, but gained some breathing room in the second with a 10-3 run. Trenton held a 16-5 lead at the half.
The Lady Bulldogs outscored Milan in both the third and fourth quarters as well to pull away for the victory.
Trenton was led by Halie Brewer, who had 13 points. Chanel Pash also hit double figures with a 10-point performance. Jordan Dunlap led Milan with 11 points.
Both Trenton girls team established records of 1-0 with their respective wins.
TMS Boys
The Trenton boys could not find the success the girls had as they fell 54-19.
Trenton started slowly and could not keep pace with the Wildcats. Milan went on several scoring streaks as they closed out the game strongly for a 54-19 win.
Austin Norris was the top scorer for the Bulldogs with nine points. Blake Schlarb had six and Brennon Vandevender had four. The Bulldogs are now 0-1 on the season.
The middle school teams will be in action Thursday for their home opener when they play host to Marceline in Trenton. The first game will be at 6 o’clock.
