Junior Varsity
The JV squad came out strong, running the ball against Brookfield. The Bulldogs marched down the field, but early turnovers kept Trenton from putting points on the board.
Trenton was finally able to break into the end zone with just over a minute left in the first quarter. Marshall Foster scored from three yards out and kicked the extra point to put the Bulldogs up 7-0.
Trenton was able to score again in the second quarter when Mason Hilsabeck broke into the end zone on a one-yard run. The point-after kick failed, however, leaving Trenton with a 13-0 lead, which they would take into halftime.
Trenton continued its pace of scoring a touchdown a quarter when Hilsabeck scored his second touchdown of the night, this time running in from nine yards out. Hilsabeck also ran in the two-point conversion, giving the Bulldogs a commanding 21-0 advantage heading into the final quarter of play.
Early in the fourth quarter, Bulldog quarterback Ethan Bunnell found the end zone on a keeper from seven yards out. The extra-point kick failed, but Trenton maintained a 27-0 advantage in the contest.
Just 54 seconds later Trenton scored again when Foster broke loose for his second touchdown on a 15-yard run. Foster’s point-after kick split the uprights and Trenton pulled ahead 34-0.
Brookfield finally got on the board for the first time all night with just three minutes left in the game. Brookfield also converted its two-point conversion making the final score 34-8 in favor of Trenton.
The JV’s final record on the season was 5-3.
Freshman
The freshman squad met stiff competition in Richmond. The game began as a defensive struggle with neither team able to score in the first quarter.
Both teams broke through offensively in the second quarter. Richmond was able to find the end zone twice and the Bulldogs scored once.
Trenton’s score came when Dalton Preston broke into the clear and outran the Richmond defense for 45 yards. A two-point conversion attempt failed and Trenton trailed 14-6 going into the second half.
Richmond duplicated its second quarter efforts in the third quarter, throwing another 14 points up on the board. Those would be the only points scored by either team in the second half as the Bulldogs fell, 28-6.
The loss put the freshman team’s final record at 3-2.
