A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007 at the Bram Funeral Home Chapel in Maryville. Rev. Paul McKim will officiate.
Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Princeton Cemetery with military honors by the Princeton VFW Memorial Post No. 7159.
A visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007 at the funeral home.
Mr. Derry was born on Aug. 13, 1944 in Princeton, the son of Olin F. and Velma Gladys Mason Derry Sr. He had been a resident of Maryville the past 23 years.
Derry was a graduate of Princeton High School. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville and later earned a master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN.
He was a captain in the U.S. Air Force and had flown troop transport planes during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the Maryville Elks Lodge No. 760, serving as a trustee and leading knight. He was also a former member of the Maryville Country Club.
He had been the area director for 17 counties for the Division of Family Services, state of Missouri, retiring in 1998 after 32 years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, whom he married in Maryville in 2001; a daughter, Shawna Derry of Kansas City; two stepchildren, Travis Turner of Maryville and Sara Turner of Kansas City; and two grandchildren, Collin Turner and Amarianna Tyson, both of Kansas City.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Neta, who died in 1995; and his parents.
The family suggests memorials to the Olin Derry Memorial Fund at Monzingo Lake.
