Thirty five communities and 14 individuals were honored at the Missouri Community Betterment conference in Jefferson City on Monday night.
Jameson Wins MCB Sweepstakes Award
The city of Jameson won the grand prize over the other 46 communities that entered this year. MCB judges and board members were impressed with the overall number and level of projects that were completed using a variety of community resources, and for completing projects that were prioritized in their own community survey. Dr. Vicki Wheeler and Leta Wheeler accepted the award on behalf of the community. The Wheeler sisters are natives of Jameson and involved in various community activities.
Other winners in their population groups were Grant City, Cabool, Higginsville, Eldon and Maryville. Trenton was judged in the competition, but did not receive any awards on the night. Representing Trenton were City Councilperson Terry Toms, Community Developer Sean Burge and city council youth representatives Megan Perry and Kevin Ewing.
The awards banquet was the highlight of the 44th conference which assists communities to improve their quality of life. Nearly 350 volunteers, community leaders and youth from across the state were in attendance.
