The Lady Bulldogs shot a team score 378 on the opening day of play to put them in fifth overall heading into the second and final day of play today. Trenton’s score of 378 is just three strokes off the 375 mark of Kirksville and Savannah, which are tied for third. Pembroke Hill led the way on day one, shooting 343, and Visitation Academy was second, shooting a 358.
Trenton golfers battled cold, windy and, at times, rainy conditions on the course.
Hadley Jennings shot a 87 to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Jennings’ mark of 87 put her in a three-way tie for 17th overall in the tournament. After a front nine 45, Jennings shot a 42 on the back nine to reach her total.
Aaron Smith rebounded nicely from her district performance, shooting a 94, second lowest on the team. Smith shot 47 on both the front and back nine and finished in 35th place overall in the 121-golfer field.
Seniors Molly Holeman and Taylor Cox put together good rounds in their first trip to state, shooting below 100. Holeman shot a 98 to place in a tie for 46th, and Cox shot a 99 to finish in a tie for 53rd.
Rounding out the Lady Bulldogs was Hannah Barron, who shot a 105 in her first trip to state. The junior used solid driving all day to anchor her performance.
Savannah’s Kate Gallagher was the top individual overall, shooting an even par 72. Sami Khan of Visitation Academy was second with a 73 and Pembroke Hill’s Kristina Mingos was third with a 77.
Following action on the first day, Trenton sat in fifth place out of 10 schools competing for team titles. The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up play this afternoon with another 18-hole round. The top four teams earn trophies, and the top 15 individuals medal.
