Kimberly Herring was elected to serve as secretary, filling a vacant position, and Treasurer Frances Whitney report a current balance of $1,115.81. Principal Jennie Boon reported on Red Ribbon Week, set for Oct. 22-26, with an assembly set for Friday, Oct. 19 to kick off the event. She also reported on McTeacher Night and said parent-teacher conferences are scheduled from 1 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25. The group discussed asking members of the Trenton High School FCCLA to provide babysitting during the event.
The annual PTO Chili Supper will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 16, with Wild Onion Cafe, Hy-Vee, McDonalds and the teachers committing to donate items. The book fair, with a theme of “Book Fair Blizzard,” will be held from Nov. 12-16.
In other business, the group discussed the third grade field trip to Earthworks, with just over $350 still needed to completely cover the cost of the trip. A service organization will be contacted to see if they will help pay the $18 per student charge for 18 students needing financial assistance. There was discussion of the PTO paying the remainder if the service organization declines. The group also discussed a request that PTO help sponsor an overnight Read-A-Thon, but due to insurance and liability reason, it was agreed that a more feasible idea would be to hold a Read-A-Thon from 6 to 9 p.m.
The next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 5.
